STEAM Discovery Academy is an after school and summer program for students in grades 1-6 to learn and create through a variety of innovative projects. The program is free to attend and available to students at a range of schools in the Greater Houston area.
Using hands-on learning projects, your child will explore something new each week. The science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) projects keep your child’s imagination growing with enthusiasm and creativity, while learning about math, science, technology, engineering, art, and math skills used in real life professions.
Project-Based Learning
Students engage in grade-appropriate learning activities in an interactive and innovative academic environment with experienced instructors. The projects covered within each session of the STEAM Discover Academy are customized to the grade level, school and young learners participating.
Our approach to project-based learning accomplishes the following:
- Prepares students for academic, personal, and career success
- Inspires students as learners, collaborators, and leaders
- Increases confidence in STEM courses and careers
- Improves critical thinking skills to solve problems
Students work as real engineers and scientists, learning and employing the engineering design process to create innovative solutions and solve real world problems. They’ll also engage in interactive and educational field trips to places like the Space Center, Houston Museum of Natural Science, Children’s Museum and a working oil rig.
